Printmakers Collective

The Printmakers Collective is a new open studio program at Art Project Roanoke — a space for community-minded people to practice exuberance through art.

There's no skill requirement or pressure to already know what you're doing. It's a collective, which means we're all in it together, learning as we go.

  • When: Tuesday evenings · Starting May 19

  • Where: 101 Campbell Ave SW · Downtown Roanoke

  • Cost: Free

What to expect

We're starting with an information session and building from there: screen printing, linocut, our own collective logo, and whatever else we decide to explore as a group.

Along the way, we'll hear from professional and retired printmakers who'll share their craft, their stories, and what keeps them coming back to the press.

As the collective grows, we'll work toward partnerships with local organizations — making shirts and posters at cost, funded by the community we're building.

We have a small collection of donated presses that we will be learning to use and the collective will have access to.

Organized by Brian Counihan

Brian Counihan is a Roanoke-based artist, educator, and the creator of the Daisy Art Parade. A founding faculty member of Community High School of Arts and Academics, he has spent his career bringing art into community life: teaching humanities and studio art, co-founding the Marginal Arts Festival, and serving the Taubman Museum as Curator for Community Engagement. He joined the Art Project Roanoke board at the start of 2026 alongside a natural partnership: Art Project Roanoke became the official fiscal agent and year-round home of the Daisy Art Parade, the city-beloved community parade he founded over 3 years ago. Brian's programming vision at Art Project Roanoke centers on the kind of making that emerged from our Monday night parade build sessions: open, collaborative, less about individual output and more about what happens when people make things together.
