COMMUNITY & EVENTS

Art Project Roanoke is a place to show up, meet and make something together. Most of what we do is free or low-cost, drop-in friendly, and open to everyone — no experience needed, no registration required unless we note it.

Here's what's happening and what's coming.

Weekly Community Art-Making

These are our regular recurring sessions. Come once, come every week. There's always something to work on and people to work alongside.

Mondays, 5pm — Structure & Movement
Large-scale builds, puppets, and parade prep. Currently building for Oct 24 Old Southwest Lantern Parade and Nov 21 Grandin Christmas Parade.

Tuesdays, 5pm— Printmakers Collective
Posters, t-shirts, postcards — screen printing, linocut, and whatever else the group is into.

Wednesdays (bi-weekly) — Sketchbook Social
Open creative time and sharing — bring your sketchbook, your current project, or just yourself. Low-key, conversational, no agenda. Bi-weekly; alternating daytime and evening Upcoming sessions:

  • July 8, 12p

  • July 22, 5p

  • August 5, 12p

  • August 19, 5p

Art by Night — First Fridays

Every first Friday of the month, we open our doors alongside downtown Roanoke's gallery corridor. Come see what's on the walls in the Side Gallery, meet the artists, and spend some time in the building.

Our solo show series through the end of the year:

July 3 — Paul Vivier (painter/illustrator)
August 7 — Keita Heinrich (designer/architect)
September 4 — Mujdah Rasikh (Hollins student artist)
October 2 — Jose not José (sculptor)

Neighborhood Activations

These are community events where we’ll be showing up as either a vendor or activating community art-sharing and revelry.

West End Block Party / NokeFest — August 22
Vendor booth and hands-on making in the West End.

Old SW Lantern Parade — October 24
We're partnering with the Old Southwest Neighborhood Group to bring puppetry and performance to the second year of this neighborhood celebration.

Grandin Christmas Parade — November 21
A large-scale dog build — more on this soon.

The APR Block Party Fundraiser — December 4

Live steamroller printmaking on the street, a postcard show, food trucks, music, performance, and a holiday market. We're closing down the block to do it right.

More details coming. Mark your calendar.

Daisy Art Parade 2027

The parade comes back every Mother’s Day weekend Saturday — and we're the year-round home for the krewe that builds it. If you want to be part of it from the beginning, Monday open studios are where that happens.
