Art by Night
A First Friday Downtown Tradition
Did you know that every First Friday, the galleries of downtown Roanoke stay open late for Art by Night? Doors open into the evening, local makers gather and each space hosts something special, from openings and demos to music and conversation. It’s a long-running tradition, and one that we want to celebrate.
This year, as Art Project Roanoke rings in the second year of our holiday pop-up, we’re joining forces with the galleries and artists who have kept downtown’s gallery spirit alive all along.
Our hope is simple: bring more curious Roanokers through these doors, into these small businesses, and face to face with the talented, passionate artists who make this city colorful.

Pick up a 6 inch wood panel. Paint it, collage it, carve it — your choice. Then put a price on it and we’ll hang it in the Art Project Roanoke side gallery.
The theme is Things That Matter. Make something about a thing that matters to you. It can look like a postcard or not. Some starting points if you want one: Greetings from Roanoke. Greetings from my backyard. The thing on my kitchen windowsill.
Your first panel is free, and extras are $1 each. Every panel that comes back gets hung. You set your own price, and artists keep 80% of each sale.
How it Works
Get a panel at APR or at a partner pickup spot.
Make your work. All ages, any medium.
Write your name, title, and price on the back.
Bring it back to APR or a partner drop off by Tuesday, December 1.
Come Friday, December 4, and find yours on the wall.
Make it @ APR
We’re opening the building for a few make nights in November, with paint and supplies out. Come by, make your panel, and leave it with us.
Schools & Groups
We put together panel bundles for classrooms, schools, and groups, with the prompt sheet included.
We’re making room for local artists and thrift sellers on December 4.
Get your art seen, get your goods gifted!
Ways to Sell
We’re looking for local, handmade, and secondhand things.
Indoor, $50: A spot inside APR.
Outdoor 10 x 10 space, $100: Bring your own tent and setup. Electricity will be available.
Bring your own payment setup and keep everything you sell.
Apply by November 13. We’ll confirm by November 19.
The show and the market are free to attend, so sponsors are how it happens. Your support pays for the free first postcard panels (luan wood and labor to cut), school bundles, make night supplies, and holiday party refreshments. Anything that’s left goes to APR programs like the Daisy Art Parade.
And the 2027 Daisy Art Parade!
