12/4  5–8PM

Community Postcard Show + Holiday Market · Free, all ages

A wall of small painted and drawn postcards from a past community postcard show

December's Art by Night lands on the same night as the downtown tree lighting. Inside APR, the Community Postcard Show opens: a wall of small works made by our neighbors. Next to it, a Holiday Market of local art and thrift, the first weekend of gift season.

Community Postcard Show

Pick up a 6" wood panel. Paint it, collage it, carve it, your choice. Then put a price on it and we'll hang it in our Side Gallery.

The theme is Things That Matter. Make something about a thing that matters to you. It can look like a postcard or not. Some starting points if you want one: Greetings from Roanoke. Greetings from my backyard. The thing on my kitchen windowsill.

Your first panel is free, and extras are $1 each. Every panel that comes back gets hung. You set your own price, and artists keep 80% of each sale.

How it works

  1. Get a panel at APR or at a partner pickup spot (to be announced).
  2. Make your work. All ages, any medium.
  3. Write your name, title, and price on the back.
  4. Bring it back to APR by Tuesday, December 1.
  5. Come Friday, December 4, and find yours on the wall.

Make it here

We're opening the building for a few make nights in November, with paint and supplies out. Come by, make your panel, and leave it with us.

Holiday Market Art & Thrift

We're making room for local artists and thrift sellers on December 4. People will be out shopping for gifts.

Ways to sell

Indoor table, $50: a spot inside APR. Bring your own payment setup and keep everything you sell.

Outdoor 10 x 10 space, $100: bring your own tent and setup. Electricity is available.

We're looking for local, handmade, and secondhand things that fit an all-ages crowd. Apply by [November 6]. We'll confirm by [November 13] with load-in times.

Sponsor the night

The show and the market are free to attend, so sponsors are how it happens. Your support pays for the wood, free first panels, school bundles, and make night supplies, and what's left goes to APR programs like the Daisy Art Parade.

Questions

Does it cost anything to come?

No. The show and the market are free, and so is your first panel.

Is it good for kids?

Yes. Bring them. Kids are welcome to make a panel for the show.

Do I have to be an artist to be in the show?

No. If you made it, it goes on the wall.

How much should I charge for my postcard?

Whatever feels right. Past postcard shows ranged from $10 to $800.

Where do I park?

[Parking note. The tree lighting brings a crowd downtown the same night.]
