Notes From 101: What’s Happening at Art Project Roanoke
A new year. A snowstorm (or two)! And the right moment to say hello from Art Project Roanoke!
Over the past weeks, we’ve had more than a few moments where it felt like some magical, slightly chaotic force was gently (or not so gently) pushing Art Project Roanoke into existence. Little winks from the universe. Green lights where we expected roadblocks. A lot of “wait… really?” moments.
The support and enthusiasm from arts- and culture-loving folks across Roanoke has been genuinely heart-filling. From Daisy Art Parade open studios and Downtown Roanoke neighborhood committee meetings…
… to welcoming our upstairs studio artists as they’ve been hauling in supplies and setting up shop…
… to connecting with inspiring leaders through the Arts & Culture Roundtable…
We’ve been reminded just how much thoughtful, committed, creative work is already happening in this city. We’re excited to learn from the people who’ve been doing this for years and to collaborate in ways that lift what’s already here, helping us do more of it … together.
We also know this is a heavy and uncertain time for many. The challenges people are facing—locally and far beyond Roanoke—are real, and they shape how we move through the world.
That’s exactly why community matters so much right now. Making things together. Listening. Showing up. Creativity doesn’t erase hard things but it does help us process them, support one another, and build the resilience needed to keep going with care and intention.
We believe there’s an exciting future ahead for Roanoke arts and culture, one where creativity and community are the engine. A future that values connection over isolation and creation over consumption, built through local, joyful making.
If that sounds like something you want to be part of… we’re really glad you’re here. :)
